I agree with what everyone else has said. You weren't fair to him to enter into a relationship with him if he told you, at the start, what his boundaries and deal breakers are. I'm much like him (very uncomfortable around animals and pets, and wouldn't be happy sharing a home with one), and if my partner/boyfriend disregarded that, I'd be really upset. You have to either let this desire go, or break up with him.
Ask her to be friends and be friends first! Do friend dates, get closer- find out if she has a partner or doesn’t want one or is gay etc. then eventually bring up your feelings after you’ve allowed time for them to develop on both sides.
At this point it doesn’t even matter if it was the kids names that pushed you over the edge and made you take action (as opposed to the level of control he was trying to gain on you and his insecurities and jealousy ), I’m just so glad, OP, that you are safe and away from that toxicity.
