I would be terrified to ever touch this woman again. If it were me, this would very easily have torched the relationship.
I've definitely gotten mad before, and made specific demands. I'm not afraid of confrontation nor do I avoid it. I'm also comfortable drawing boundaries. I've mentioned to her on several occasions that I feel as though she needs to help out more around the house, needs to get a job, and also that I need physical intimacy in the relationship. 6 months ago was probably my most abrasive conversation, as it was incredibly blunt and she ended up crying for a few days. Trust me when I say this, I've tried nearly every angle and approach. Nevertheless, she habitually reverts back to her old ways, nothing changes, and it's as if those conversations never happened.
I recognize that I cannot personally change someone's Behavior, or fix them so to speak, but in the very least I am to a certain degree expecting a certain amount of effort. That effort is simply not there.
I think she can get around without knowing the language. I’ve spent lots of time in places without knowing the language, where english isn’t common and without a smart phone. I would keep a phrase book and learn a few basic things, as well as just point to phrases I needed to communicate. Now she can literally speak Arabic into her phone and have it speak english back. She’s probably looking forward to some alone time and some independence. It’ll build her confidence. Anyways you can’t force her to stay with your family if she doesn’t want to. She can order and Uber without speaking at all, and hospitals have translators that do this professionally. My next door neighbor is an Arabic/English translator, and she drives off to the hospital for this sort of thing all the time.
I think you may feel guilty that you’re leaving her alone, but don’t turn that in to a reason to control her.
