You need to stop beating yourself up. Will some people have an issue with how you handled things? Sure. But that doesn't matter. They can judge, but at the end of the day, it's your life and your happiness.
I'd say at worst, you got too involved on an emotional level with the new person before finally ending things with your ex. But that's normal, and you're young.
