I love that boundaries is becoming a hall pass to force people to adhere to irrational demands. Tell her your boundary is continuing your healthy coparenting relationship with your ex. If she still stands firm, maybe offer her the same coparenting relationship?
But if you make it about the word and not how you felt, then if the other person doesn’t think the word is a problem you now end up having an argument about the word itself.
And if you start out making it about the word, the discussion becomes about the word, and then you try changing it to how the word made you feel, the other person is much more likely to think you’re just refusing to admit it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Also, there’s this possibility: the other person acknowledges your POV on the word and just agrees to not use that word again. Has that actually solved anything? Was it really the word that was the problem or that the other person felt like it was ok to belittle you? Because I can make someone feel like crap only using words found in Dr. Seuss books, but that doesn’t make that behavior better.
