American here agreeing with all the other folks here. We get people from all over the world with varying accents. If he wanted an American accented girlfriend, then he should've found one. He is being an ass to you and would belittle you for something else, if not this. If you really come at him for it, im certain he wouod try to tell you hes joking or “just trying to help” The English accent to us is widely regarded as very proper and posh sounding, not to mention very understandable as far as accents go.
