3. Her Eat, Pray Love window closed when she decided to have a child. I’m assuming she wanted children as well? While I think it’s 100% normal to go through a rough patch of figuring out who you are between being a Mom and a business person (been there myself). What’s not normal is just deciding to basically check out on you and your daughter. She may be clinically depressed or have some other things she needs help with, but that’s what therapists are for. Not ditching your family to find yourself.

   I would personally push for her to go into therapy. I would have said, fine go on your 2 week trip to France, but come back and get some help—however, I don’t know if I’d trust her to come back after 2 weeks.

   You’ve got a tough decision to make. Do you support the whole “I don’t know when I’ll be back” thing, or is this your “if you don’t come back we’re done” moment. And that includes her daughter. She can’t flit in and out of her life. If she doesn’t come back you can get complete custody for abandonment.

   I’m so sorry. I hope she makes the right decision.
