Well, step one is admitting the problem, and it takes a lot to admit your mistakes. Good job there. Step two, I think, is therapy. Being vulnerable can be hard, and men are often taught not to. I've heard that considering it more as “doing battle with your brain demons” can help?
It sounds like you do care for her, you just need help figuring out yourself. I did cognitive behavioral therapy for different reasons – it's all about rewiring your brain to change how you respond to different situations. Mostly it's a lot of taking the time to watch yourself from the outside, then digging deep to analyze why you reacted that way, figuring out how you'd prefer to react, and working with your therapist to get there.
While it may be too late to get her back, you've got a whole life ahead of you. You've fought hard to get this far. Sorting out your brain can go a long way to getting yourself the career and the life you want. I wish you luck!
