…yeah OP, I'm with your wife on this. It sounds like you haven't bothered to take an interest in your teenage son at all because he doesn't box like you did. It's not difficult to talk to him about what kinds of anime he likes, watch some with him, take him to a convention. It doesn't really matter if that's what you'd choose for yourself, having a kid means putting their needs first, and bonding with them and supporting their interests is a need.
If you were having a hard time finding the computer, you could have asked him more about it or posted on a computer forum on Reddit with the specs and I'm sure someone could have pointed you in the right direction. Just a tiny bit of effort could have made your son feel loved and valued for who he is. Instead you sent him the message that you can't be bothered with what he likes or wants.
You really fucked up here, and you had better hope it's not too late to repair your relationship with him. Time to invest as much of your emotional effort in his interests as you do in your other two children's. Otherwise you may find that he doesn't call when he's an adult and you'll wonder why.
