Talk to him. Being poor, not having a degree have nothing to do with the quality of a guy.
Sit him down, and discuss his long range goals. Maybe he needs direction in his life. Maybe a little guidance and understanding will enable him to go from “loser” to “a catch”. Give him a time table to meet. Create goals, and keep up on him to meet them.
If you like/love him, he deserves a fair shake. If he can't get out of first gear, then he will always be scrapping for minimum.
