To be honest, you said exactly what you should have said to the one who is insecure about her sports. There is nothing else you could have said and she reacted like a brat. She should have been talking to her coach about her performance, not you.
It’s a shame that you seem to have had 3 needy girlfriends but I guess we are all like that in our teens (I can’t remember that far back tbh)

It for sure feels like she has a very complicated relationship with her ex that is like partnership-lite – a friendship that is incredibly complex and deep and pretty much just a step out from being partners.
While I agree that as adults you guys are capable of being friends with ex's, there are boundaries that have to be set and…clearly you are getting some vibes there that it's deeper than just friends.
I would personally walk away. You've voiced your concerns, she's shown that she isn't going to change anything to address them.
If you are looking for a long term, traditional partnership, it's time to walk.
Coming here to say this. Oddly, I enjoy watching it, the reality of it, not as much. There's prep, clean up, being more careful… Just a lot more to it than just jumping to fun time.
