Is it technically cheating? I don’t know but it doesn’t really matter. This isn’t a court of law. You don’t have to convict him of cheating under code 403 section b. All you have to do to break up is decide you no longer want to be in a relationship with him. Which is probably what I would decide to do given this obnoxious and hurtful behavior.

Or, I suppose, not ‘break up with him’ technically, but ‘refuse to get back together with him’

So what action should one take in this situation?

How can I get over this without leaving? This guy is a coworker too, so now I have to wonder what's happening at work with this guy, if anything.

Do I just nuke the relationship and leave? Or do I wait for an apology, and leave if I don't get one?

Realizing you’re insecure is a big step. And it sounds like you have some very valid reasons for feeling that way. However, the dinners together aren’t confusing for the kids. It’s actually really important and healthy for the parents to show a united front and that they co-parent amicably. It does sound like he’s playing both sides against the middle and gaslighting you though. How do you know the ex is bad mouthing you at these dinners? Is he telling you that? I feel like there were a number of red flags in your post and they were all pointing at him.

You hit the nail and the head with talking about how her actions don't match her words. She's not interested. Maybe she's not interested in dating or today or a million other things – but it amounts to the same thing. She's not available. Staying in touch with her and trying to make it work with someone who is not also trying to make it work will only hurt you. Tell her you need a break and that you deserve to find someone who treats you like you deserve. Then block her on everything, delete all pictures or whatever and move on. Maybe someday down the line in a year or so you can be friends but for now you need to stop trying to date someone who doesn't want to date you.
