He wasn’t 100% honest, though. He’s already agreed to marry her and taken it back. Then with the pregnancy he said it was OP’s decision, he’d support her either way, and took that back as well. Obviously there’s no reason OP should trust him when he says if she terminated they’ll get married and try again later – he changes his mind too much.
It wouldn’t have been as bad if he had just said hey, I thought about it more and I realized I don’t feel ready and if you choose to keep the baby I don’t want to be involved. That would have sucked, but it’s respectable in its own way – it’s honest, straightforward, clear.
However, he at first offered support and said it was OP’s decision and then waited until OP was keeping the baby to switch up and say actually no, if you keep it I’ll probably leave and you’ll probably be a single parent. Then tries to lead her like a horse with a carrot that if she terminates he’ll marry her and they can try again. This is dishonest, wishy-washy, and manipulative.
Thank you, that was very insightful and kind. I have had many of the same thoughts and ignored the same conclusion. And you are right about the fact that we are not even remotely the same people anymore. Honestly, I have no idea if she ever thought of me as more than just a good guy friend back in the day. I think she will always be someone I love, but right now, emotionally, I am treating her like the girl I had a crush on. Being in your mid-30s and having a crush is really fkin weird, logically, You know what you're thinking is dumb but you think it any way. I am going to leave the ball in her court, and if she does want to chat and be friends, awesome, but I am going to try not going to dwell on it anymore
