Why don’t you ask her why she’s so angry about it? What has caused her such distress that she is prepared to escalate it this way? Sounds like there’s more to this than we’re hearing. Is your wife jealous of your relationship with your brother? Is she trying to force you to take sides as a kind of test? Is your brother having a dig at your wife knowing it’s a sore point? Is he showing her that you brothers have a stronger bond than you & your wife? This isn’t just about who the number one fan is!
It doesn’t sound that way. She doesn’t have a relationship with Tom to break up.
You need to ask yourself a simple question,
If your wife wants to be childfree, would you divorce her?
This is really what this whole question comes down to. Is your desire to have children so great that you would end your relationship in order to have children? If you choose to accept your wife saying she doesn't want kids will you resent her for it? Resentment is a relationship killer.

Honestly I have a lot of female friends who say things like this to their platonic straight female friends and definitely also talk like that with their platonic gay male friends.
