I'm sure this is going to fall on deaf ears, but let me try to give you a little perspective. I personally wouldn't think to call someone on their birthday especially someone I've not known that long (from your post your relationship was still reasonably early by your birthday)
Why wouldn't I think to call someone on their birthday??? Because growing up I didn't really get things for my birthday, sure from my mum who I lived with, my dad never called or gifted and neither did my wider family, That was normal to me, thats what I learned.
Once we were old enough my brothers and I never gifted or called on birthdays, my dad still doesn't call, I DO have a relationship with my dad, but I'm 99% sure he doesn't actually know when my birthday is. It's simply not important to me, because it wasn't really a part of my life, I've learned along the way the importance. My husband has been confused my family's detachment and lack of effort towards each other.
