You know even if you eloped/went to courthouse some people would still give you gifts/money anyway once they found out. Plus, some of them would be upset.
You could give your friends gifts instead although hosting them at a party is already a gift. But you could find a way to give any wedding money back to the friends or family who need it most or have a link to different non monetary gifts, set up a website for gifts of time with people (homecooked dinner, pet/house sitting etc…); sustainable living website.
But you know there are plenty of people who need the money and many causes that do too. So, you know this seems very 1st world problems…just make your almost wife happy. You doing the wedding as a compromise doesn't work if you're constantly resenting it or calculating it in…part of the deal is to be happy you're doing it for her not hold it over her
