Seriously, this thread is bonkers. Mum did have other options, she didn't have to issue any ultimatums, she's lashing out because she's (very understandably) hurt, but aiming it at the wrong person.

She could have: Gotten into therapy, set boundaries (no talking about dad and AP around her for example), taken a breather from everyone for a couple of weeks or more, then come back, completely fair. Instead she put the onus on her son who's innocent in this. It's his dad she should focus her upset on. He's the one at fault, 100%, and what a shitty thing he did.

I hope OP doesn't take it to heart, his dad did a horrible thing and OP's now collateral damage in his mum's eyes. It's not his fault in any way.

You actually haven't built “a life together,” which is why the relationship is ending. You built your life around assumptions, and he allowed you to stay around out of convenience. Are there feelings there? Of course. IRL, instead of focusing on this relationship, you should focus on gaining self-love and true self-esteem so that you can have boundaries and expectations for your romantic relationships.
