I don’t know of anyone who specifically ever had to had ask for these clauses to be added. Any good realtor and loan officer should suggest these to protect their clients and their business. I know of at least 10 people that have these clauses in their mortgage that their bank suggested they include.
I didn’t say it was more or less risk for the bank to include these clauses. This specific situation according to the OP, includes both of them in the mortgage, Not just as co-signers for the home ownership.
And I also didn’t say people were smart, just that there is an astounding number of people that don’t have people protecting them and helping them understand legal documents and what they’re getting into. It’s not like a mortgage is written in the most simple of language.
