   I CAN however speak on the side of the child.

   I was conceived via rape. My mom tried to hide it, but I found out when I was 11 or so – she had written things (if I recall, to the government as they wanted a father's name to get child support for me) and it was .. jarring to find out the man she was with wasn't my dad and that everything I thought I knew wasn't true. It was harder, to realize the hate and disgust many carry for babies conceived by rape and to read the comments many made, the hate my mom held for me for a time (she had severe PPD and tried to smother me when I was born) and feeling like I was a disgusting mistake that shouldn't have been born.

   This child will feel all that as well. We aren't stupid. If you honestly have any doubt you can handle it, you need to make that VERY CLEAR and figure out what you want to do. The child could end up looking like the rapist. I carry some resemblance to mine, but it isn't a lot (which my mom admits is the only reason she could raise me) You'll have to field questions growing up, learn medical history info… It isn't the hardest thing in the world, but it isn't the easiest.
