Going to go against the grain here and say why I personally would keep the puppy (although I understand why other people think differently). Getting a dog is a commitment – a lifelong one on their part – and should be taken seriously. However, long distance relationships that are only a few months old have a lot of barriers to overcome, and you’ve still got a lot to learn about this person and your compatibility (we all do several months in, how many of us have been with someone for years before finding out they’re incompatible? I know I have).
I guess what you’ve got to consider is how you’ll feel if you ditch your dog for him and end up breaking up further down the line anyway, because there is no guarantee that a fledgling relationship, especially a long distance one, will be a success. I’d want to be really really certain that this person is forever before making this call.
