1. you don't get to dictate whether he smokes or not, and he doesn't have to obey your wishes. the only choice you get to make here is whether or not you want to date a smoker. smoking (drinking, drugs, bad eating habits, insert your own) is a personal choice that you don't get a say in – you can give advice or ask him to quit, but he gets to choose whether he does that or not.

   if it's a dealbreaker for you, leave – that's perfectly valid. if it's not, leave him alone about it.

   Tbh, this isn't unheard of if a couple started dating at a young age, have spent many years together, and if the relationship just fizzled out and nothing major (e.g. cheating) happened.

   Yes, it's not for everyone, but it definitely happens.

   I have made it known early on that it makes me uncomfortable and that I don’t want them in my life.

   She thought it would fade in time. It has not.

   So what do you expect to happen to move forward with this relationship? Your fiancée and her ex have a cat together….okay, she can just tell him that she never wants any contact….but what about her family? You can't tell them that they need to stop seeing him….they are allowed to have a friendship with her ex.
