No honestly it's a very good idea because mental illness is considered a disability, therfore jobs can not discriminate against an employee who suffers from it. I highly doubt your health insurance is already canceled, so tell him if he wants to save the both of you from ending up living inside a cardboard box, then he had better show up at the nearest crisis center or allow himself to be involuntarily committed. And if he thinks he's “too smart” or “too sane” to have anything wrong with him mentally then he better put on the acting job of his life and fucking SELL IT so he gets a concrete diagnosis on his records. Although honestly I truly think he might actually have some kind of issue that'd get him a diagnosis, whether it be bipolar or something else. Because like others have said, what he did was something a teenager would do, and a very impulsive one at that. If he refuses all of that and doesn't have actual plans of jobs he's going to apply to before the end of the weekend, fuck it even if it's just driving for uber for the time being, then maybe you should take a night by yourself and really think things over. You said yourself you can't support you both on your salary alone. If he won't do anything to contribute, are you willing to put your degree on hold to become the breadwinner? I really hope the answer is no. Because while I'm sure your salary isn't enough for you both, I bet you could make it work if you only had to support yourself. Even if you had to rent a room for a bit and get insurance and food stamps through the state, you've come this far already, please don't let his bullshit derail what you've been working so hard for.
