   I experienced that and I left before it shattered my self-esteem. Those people don't put themselves in someone else's shoes. She destroys slowly her partner.

4. If my FIL was like that, I would show up to his party just to piss him off. Make cracks about his age, how old he looks because of all that “hard work.” Tell him you’ll likely age gracefully, because your life is easy thanks to your dad who was a success and set you up to succeed.

   Lean into it for the rest of your relationship with him, remind him how lucky he is that your dad’s successes will make sure his daughter is also well taken care of, too. He’s clearly insecure about it, which is human, but allowing it to fuel his conduct with you longterm is not okay.

   Yes, he is saying he is not interested. But don't take that personally. If he just got out of a relationship, and he can't give a new one a fair effort…then…it has nothing to do with you. Just as he said. Maybe he was attracted to you, maybe not. Doesn't matter and again – not personal.
