In theory, there isn't anything wrong with wanting to go on a solo trip with a friend, and some people in your position would be fine with their partner doing that. Other people wouldn't be, and both are fine ways to be.
Boundaries are basically the limit of how far you're willing to compromise in whatever the specific situation is. It becomes controlling when you try to force or obligate someone to comply with your point of view. If a compromise can't be made and/or your partner isn't willing to make changes to accommodate you then the thing to do is end the relationship
