Your friend has a medical issue that makes losing weight incredibly difficult, even if she were to do everything right. Her meds make it much worse because they are known to make people gain weight.

When you say she can in fact control her emotions, she may in fact have a disorder which prevents her from controlling her emotions. This could be a chemical imbalance or a serious mental or emotional problem. It’s not clear why you’re dismissing that possibility and while it doesn’t make it any easier to endure, it’s an important distinction.
