2. So I want to sort this in to two buckets.

   The first is a totally fair feeling of being taken advantage of- who just waits for the other person to pay? It is rude. When the check comes, you offer to pay your part, split the bill in half, or say “my treat.” Those are the 3 appropriate ways to handle a bill, and none of them include just trying to wait the other person out. You should either address it with him, or call him out on it the next time you are out together.

   The second bucket though, is your comment about it being “manly.” Listen, I get it, the ingrained attitudes about the sexes is strong and hard to break. When I go out on a date- I'm a woman- I am happy to split the bill, but if the guy doesn't offer to pay my brain still say “oh he doesn't like me” and I had to actively break myself of that. The culture tells us the man picks up the bill, but that is – thankfully- changing. So if he doesn't pay for you, he is still a man. If he tries to not pay for himself, he is a mooch, but still has the gender of his choosing intact.
