This was exactly my thought! I know heirlooms are special, and I don’t know if OP is in a good enough financial position to get this done, but possibly a replica? Or it might be even cooler to have like a “sister” ring to the heirloom ring. One that’s not identical, but has some minor changes.
She’s valid in wanting that validation from the ring, but I do think she’s overreacting.
