You sound like an avoidant partner OP. Need to be honest and open in your communication with your wife. If it goes sideways, that is fine. Things usually go sideways when having and honest discussion, that is why the ones that are good at this, follow through with a bit of after care by talking through feelings, explaining themselves further, etc, etc.
Communication is not knowing the perfect words to say, it is about not running away from the talk at the first sign if trouble.

Maybe try to set more designated times for it, so it feels less like an all day thing. She still gets what she wants, and you might start to find it enjoyable again.
I’ve never had a partner die, but I’ve had close friends and family pass and I will tell you that you never stop missing them. But you start to miss them in a way that hurts your heart less. More like they’re away on a trip. Take it one day at a time, and take care of yourself. A counselor who specializes in grief may be helpful, may not. Worth a try though
