Age gap relationships are tough because each individual person has a different morality regarding it (specifically talking about two consenting adults ofc), there are genuinely people who think 5 years is too large and there's people who see 50 year olds become sugar daddies to 20 year olds and don't think twice about it.
18 and 30 is a pretty big gap in my eyes but as long as the boyfriend is being genuine and cares about OP, it's something that can work out. Especially since OP indicated that the boyfriend dated similar age or older before which rules out the possibility that he's specifically targeting “barely legals” or whatever.
Hmm I kept it anonymous without any identifying information for this reason, but you do have a point.
