My dog gets the post-dinner zoomies as well, which stresses me out immensely as he's a tall deep-chested dog and therefore at higher risk for bloat/GDV, so I'm always trying to make him contain the zoomies until he's at least digested his food properly! (weirdly this only happens after his evening meal though, he's perfectly calm after breakfast.)
We take them on two walks a day, morning and evening. I swear it gives him even more energy.
I had the same issue with my dog when he was younger – I was walking him loads, off-lead on open farmland where he could sprint to his heart's content (he's part greyhound, but he gets his energy from his staffie side), and yet he was still a fucking lunatic with far too much energy. In fact, the more exercise I gave him, the fitter he got and the more energy he had!
After some research I realised that my mistake was in only exercising his body and not paying enough attention to mental exercise, so he was very fit but still bored and mentally under-stimulated. I started doing more training with him and giving him things like Kongs, puzzle toys and snuffle mats to keep him mentally occupied. I'm really glad that I did, because not long after this he ended up tearing his cruciate ligament and had a long period of bed rest followed by very limited exercise, so the mental stimulation was vital to keep him sane when he was stuck in a little playpen 24/7.
He's over 7yo now and still a bit of a lunatic, and I can in no way claim to have him well trained (people still sometimes ask if he's a puppy because he's so overexcitable when meeting new friends – he doesn't jump up any more but he did once injure the tip of his tail and spray blood ALL OVER THE HOUSE from wagging too hard when my uncle visited) but he's overall manageable and most importantly happy so that's all that matters to me.

Yeah I'd say go see friends because it's not as if you get to hang out with them everyday. Your MiL might be a bit upset but hopefully she understands and maybe you can see her tomorrow and do something?
Simply put fuck no. You established a boundary and he’s making you feel bad putting you in a position where you question your own worth and boundaries so that HE can get what he wants which is to fuck another woman under the guise of it being good for business. If he’s willing to disrespect you on this how many other times will he put himself first at your expense. He ain’t worth it.
