I've tried to end it a few times and she gets so distraught that I end up backing out and agreeing to work on things. But I keep coming back to the same point
Break up and stick to it. You’re making it harder on both of you by staying together. She needs/wants a lot more attention then you’re comfortable with and if you’ve talked about it and she’s not letting up, then breaking up is better for both of you, you’re just not compatible.
P is abusive. There was nothing to ruin. Your mother is afraid of him. He threatened to kill himself so she wouldn't break up with him. He constantly questions her, he has profiles on dating sites – HE ruined this relationship with his actions. Not you.
My insecurities are my own problem that I need to work through, but any way you cut it I think “yes my ex looks better than you, but it's okay because you're good at makeup” is a very hurtful and thoughtless response.
This was a pretty common bug with those phones a year or two ago, most likely you or him need to update their carrier settings or just do the next apple update. Typically when people disguise numbers, it comes in as “private” or “unknown” not a random international number. Some sales software will allow you to use dummy numbers but I’ve never heard one have an international suffix. You had turned your phone off and sometimes shit takes a while to load back as well. For example, a 614 area code can sometimes have a 61’ intl code and the first digit is a 4. Sounds more like a bug to me, id give him some grace if everything is otherwise healthy.
