I’m speaking from experience: you don’t do the thing that you know is going to piss off your roommate and expect to stay roommates. You don’t do the thing that you know is going to piss off your friend and expect to stay friends. They need to have the conversation ASAP.
If someone is so checked out on your personality they can’t even get a gift that’s remotely similar to your interests, that’s a red flag to me. I’ve always hated getting gifts because my family/friends has never taken half a minute to consider my personality or interests when giving me things and I end up with random shit from them. Honestly it hurts my feelings because it shines a light on just how little they care about me.
My husband gets me the best, most thoughtful gifts. I’ve never had someone who actually gets me things I like (I’m not picky or anything, people usually just don’t care) and it makes me feel so so special. It’s just one of those things that makes me know he’s perfect.
Maybe try talking to him? Explain how you feel. Tell him that putting in so little effort it’s kinda insulting. Also, who gets someone vitamins for a gift!?

I do understand where you're coming from but for me, I've got a year clean from heroin next week, and it does annoy me that we use the same terms. One is an addiction or substance dependency and one is an obsessive hobby fixation. I do often feel that the latter type gets used to excuse really bad behaviour far too much. I didnt actually do anything to upset anyone in my life this much as a drug addict. This guy is just a dick.
